Dr. Joonsung Bae is a Korean board-certified Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon with more than twenty years of clinical and academic experience, and consults at ELEMENTAL Day Surgical Center in Jumeirah 1, Dubai.
He trained at The Catholic University of Korea in Seoul — medical degree, residency and clinical fellowship in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery — and holds the academic appointment of Clinical Professor in the university’s Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. From 2008 to 2024 he practised at JK Plastic Surgery Center in Seoul, where he was also chief teaching surgeon for visiting physicians from abroad.
His practice is centred on facial rejuvenation surgery — deep plane face and neck lifting, eyelid surgery and rhinoplasty — complemented by body contouring. He has worked as a visiting surgeon and lecturer in Vietnam, China, Malaysia, Japan and Qatar, and has published and lectured on facial rejuvenation and regenerative approaches in aesthetic surgery.

Dr. Bae’s core expertise is surgical rejuvenation of the face and neck. He plans each operation around the patient’s facial anatomy, tissue quality and the degree of change the patient wants, and discusses recovery time and risks before any decision is made.

Dr. Bae has served as chief teaching surgeon for international doctors, as an invited speaker at meetings of the Korean Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons and the Chinese Society of Aesthetic Surgeons, and as a medical expert advisor to the Consumer Dispute Settlement Commission of the Korea Consumer Agency (2017–2023). He is a co-author of peer-reviewed publications in plastic surgery and dermatological research, including work in Experimental Dermatology and Archives of Dermatological Research.
Professional memberships
Dr. Bae is a member of the Korean Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons, the Korean Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ISAPS) and the Korean Medical Association.
The ELEMENTAL approach
At ELEMENTAL, Dr. Bae’s facial surgery is performed in the centre’s own operating theatre with specialist anaesthesia, with same-day discharge in most cases. Each patient is assessed in person first; the surgical plan, expected recovery and alternatives are explained at the consultation.
Suitability for any procedure is determined at an in-person consultation. Surgical treatments carry possible risks, including swelling, bruising, scarring and the need for further treatment, which are discussed before any procedure. Results vary from person to person.
