Dental Consultation and Check-Up in Dubai
What happens during a dental consultation
A first appointment at ELEMENTAL Day Surgical Center in Jumeirah 1 is a full examination, not a quick look at the tooth that hurts. The dentist takes your medical history and current medication, examines the teeth, gums, tongue, palate and soft tissues, checks existing fillings and crowns for leakage, fracture or recurrent decay, assesses how the teeth meet and how the jaw joints move, and screens the oral mucosa.
Where an examination alone cannot answer the question — decay suspected between two teeth, a tooth that hurts only under pressure, bone loss around a mobile tooth, a wisdom tooth sitting close to a nerve — imaging is taken during the same visit rather than at a second appointment.
You leave with a written treatment plan that states what was found, what needs treatment now, what can safely be monitored, in what order the work should be done and what each stage costs.

Imaging in the same visit
Digital intraoral radiography, panoramic imaging and cone beam computed tomography are performed on site, so a diagnosis does not depend on sending you to an external imaging centre and waiting for a report. The CBCT unit is a Planmeca Viso G5 with fields of view up to 20 x 17 cm, the Planmeca Ultra Low Dose protocol and Planmeca CALM motion artefact correction.
A dental operating microscope is used in the clinic for examination as well as for treatment. Cracks in a cusp, a leaking margin under an old restoration, early decay in a fissure and the state of an existing crown are all things that magnification and coaxial light show and an unaided examination can miss, particularly on a tooth that hurts on biting with nothing obvious to see.
Radiographs are taken when there is a clinical reason for them, not routinely at every appointment, and protective measures are applied. If you are pregnant or think you may be, tell the dentist before any imaging is taken. More detail is on the page about CBCT and dental X-ray.
What a consultation costs
A dental consultation at ELEMENTAL is AED 650 with a prosthodontist or an endodontist, and it includes the examination and a written treatment plan. Full-mouth CBCT imaging, where it is needed, is AED 1,000, and professional cleaning under the Airflow Swiss protocol is AED 1,250. Prices are current as of August 2026.
Where the consultation leads next
The consultation is the entry point to the whole department. Depending on what is found, treatment continues with professional cleaning and gum treatment, root canal treatment, crowns, bridges and dentures, dental implants, braces and clear aligners or tooth extraction and oral surgery.
If the reason for coming is appearance rather than pain, the relevant pages are teeth whitening and veneers and smile design.
Signs you should not wait for a routine visit
Book sooner if you have pain that wakes you at night or does not settle with over-the-counter painkillers, swelling of the face or gum, a tooth that has become loose in an adult mouth, gums that bleed for more than two weeks, a broken tooth with a sharp edge or exposed pink tissue, a lost crown or filling, an ulcer or a white or red patch that has not healed within three weeks, or difficulty opening the mouth or swallowing.
Facial swelling with fever, or swelling spreading towards the eye or under the tongue, is not a wait-and-see situation and is handled through emergency dental care.
How often check-ups are needed
The interval follows individual risk rather than a calendar rule. Six months suits many adults, but people with active gum disease, a high rate of decay, dry mouth, a history of head and neck radiotherapy, orthodontic appliances or several implants and crowns are usually seen more often, while a stable mouth with good hygiene may need fewer visits.
The point of the interval is catching problems while they are still small: decay treated as a filling rather than a root canal, gum inflammation treated before bone is lost, a cracked restoration replaced before the tooth splits and becomes unrestorable.
At ELEMENTAL this treatment is carried out by Dr. Artem Shyshko, General Dentist.
