Sclerotherapy is a non-surgical method: there is no incision and no general anaesthesia. A sclerosant is injected into the vein through a fine needle, the vein wall closes, and the vessel is gradually absorbed by the body over the following weeks.

This is what makes it different from surgical removal and from thermal ablation. It is used for spider veins, reticular veins and small to medium varicose veins; larger trunk veins are more often treated with EVLA or cyanoacrylate glue closure. The choice is made after a duplex ultrasound, not by the appearance of the leg alone.

The session is outpatient. Compression stockings are worn afterwards and walking is encouraged the same day. Several sessions are often needed — how many depends on the number and calibre of the veins. Individual results vary; consultation required.

Sclerotherapy is the ideal solution for a range of common venous concerns, particularly small, superficial veins that are close to the skin’s surface. You are likely a good candidate if you have:

For certain vein concerns — especially those that are slightly larger, deeper, or more resistant to standard treatment — ELEMENTAL offers ultrasound‑guided foam sclerotherapy (UGFS). This advanced technique provides several key benefits:

• More potent than liquid sclerosant: The sclerosant solution is mixed with a tiny amount of air to create a dense, microbubbly “foam”. Because the foam does not mix readily with blood, it gently displaces blood and stays in contact with the vein wall much longer, increasing the sclerosing effect
• Real‑time ultrasound guidance: The foam is injected while Dr. Peter Lassu visualises the vein and the spread of the foam on an ultrasound screen. This ensures precise, complete coverage and greatly improves safety, especially for deeper or tortuous veins
• Ideal for reticular veins: Foam sclerotherapy is particularly effective for treating reticular veins – the flat, bluish‑green feeder veins that often lie underneath spider vein clusters and are difficult to treat with liquid injections alone

1. Consultation & ultrasound. Dr. Lassu examines your legs and performs a duplex ultrasound scan to map the veins and rule out underlying vein disease. You get a clear plan and an exact price. The consultation fee is AED 750.
2. The session. A fine needle delivers the sclerosant into each vein. A session takes 15–30 minutes; no anaesthesia is needed.
3. Right after. You walk out and can return to most activities the same day. Compression stockings are usually worn for 1–2 weeks; we ask you to avoid intense workouts, hot baths and direct sun on the treated area for the first days.
4. Results. Treated veins fade gradually over 3–6 weeks; larger veins may take longer. Some patients need 1–3 sessions depending on the number of veins — Dr. Lassu will tell you what to expect at the consultation.

Sclerotherapy at ELEMENTAL starts from AED 2,500 per session; ultrasound-guided foam sclerotherapy is AED 3,500 per session. A consultation with a consultant vascular surgeon is AED 750, and a venous duplex scan, when needed, is AED 1,200 for one leg or AED 1,600 for both.
