Consultation with a Gastroenterologist in Dubai
Modern gastroenterology is a rapidly evolving field dedicated to the diagnosis and treatment of a wide spectrum of digestive system disorders. At ELEMENTAL Day Surgical Center in Dubai, we recognize that gastrointestinal (GI) health is the foundation of overall well‑being — when it is compromised, it affects the entire body.
Therefore, we offer a comprehensive approach, ranging from preventive check‑ups to the management of complex chronic diseases.

What Conditions Does a Gastroenterologist Treat?
The range of conditions managed by a gastroenterologist at ELEMENTAL covers the entire digestive tract – from the mouth to the rectum – as well as the liver, gallbladder, and pancreas. Our specialists have extensive experience in diagnosing and treating both common and rare conditions, including:
- Oesophageal and gastric disorders: Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), chronic heartburn, gastritis, peptic ulcer disease
- Functional bowel disorders: Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) with associated pain, bloating, constipation, or diarrhoea
- Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD): Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis – conditions that require long‑term, expert management
- Liver and pancreatic diseases: Viral hepatitis, fatty liver disease, cirrhosis, pancreatitis, and biliary tract pathology
- Other conditions: Coeliac disease, lactose intolerance, small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO), as well as colorectal cancer screening
In addition, our specialists provide consultations on nutrition and weight management, including weight‑loss programmes.
When Should You Schedule a Consultation?
Any discomfort related to digestion may be a reason to see a gastroenterologist. You should not postpone a consultation if you regularly experience any of the following symptoms:
- Chronic heartburn or a sour taste in the mouth
- Abdominal pain, bloating, nausea, or vomiting
- Diarrhoea, constipation, or other persistent changes in bowel habits
- Blood in the stool or black, tarry stools
- Unexplained weight loss or loss of appetite
- Persistent fatigue that may be a sign of anaemia
Even in the absence of obvious symptoms, an annual preventive check‑up with a gastroenterologist is recommended for everyone over 40 years of age, especially for those with a family history of colorectal cancer or polyps.
What to Expect During the Consultation and Diagnostic Options
Your visit begins with a thorough medical history and physical examination. The doctor will ask about your symptoms, lifestyle, dietary habits, and family medical history. To establish an accurate diagnosis, ELEMENTAL is equipped for the following investigations, allowing us to offer a wide range of investigations “under one roof”:
- Modern endoscopic examinations: These are the “gold standard” for diagnosing many GI conditions. They include gastroscopy (examination of the oesophagus, stomach, and duodenum) and colonoscopy (examination of the large intestine). These procedures allow not only visual assessment of the mucosa but also biopsy or polyp removal
- Laboratory diagnostics: Blood tests, stool tests, Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) testing, and screening for other infections
- Imaging studies: Ultrasound of the abdominal organs

Cost and your next step
A consultation with a Consultant Gastroenterologist at ELEMENTAL costs AED 750. The fee follows the DHA grade of the doctor: consultant AED 750, specialist AED 680, general practitioner AED 600. This covers the full appointment: history, examination, review of any previous investigations you bring with you, and a written plan of what to do next.
If tests are recommended, their cost is quoted separately and in writing before anything is booked. For reference, gastroscopy under sedation starts from AED 7,100 and colonoscopy under sedation from AED 7,600; the final figure depends on sedation, biopsies and histology.
ELEMENTAL works on a self-pay basis: payment is settled at the clinic rather than billed to an insurer. If your policy includes out-patient reimbursement, we provide an itemised invoice and a medical report so you can claim from your insurer — whether the cost is reimbursed, and how much, is decided by your insurance company under the terms of your policy.
Consultations are held by DHA-licensed doctors at ELEMENTAL Day Surgical Center in Jumeirah 1, Dubai.
Prices updated: August 2026.
At ELEMENTAL this treatment is carried out by Dr. Ashwini Banerjee, Consultant Gastroenterologist.
Who you see, and what that title means
Consultations at ELEMENTAL are with Dr. Ashwini Banerjee, Consultant Gastroenterologist, DHA licence 66338367-009 — the title is the one on the DHA licence, not a marketing description. He holds a CCT in Gastroenterology and General Internal Medicine, has more than fifteen years of clinical experience in the NHS including a consultant post at a regional hepato-pancreato-biliary centre, and consults in English, Hindi and Bengali.
In practice the grade matters for two things: what can be decided in one visit, and what is done in-house rather than referred. A consultant can interpret your existing results, decide whether endoscopy is indicated and perform it himself — gastroscopy, colonoscopy, push enteroscopy, ERCP, endoscopic ultrasound, stricture dilatation and stent placement are all within his practice. The consultant tariff of AED 750 is a grade tariff, applied consistently across the surgical and endoscopy directions at ELEMENTAL.
From symptom to answer: how the pathway runs
The point of the first visit is to decide what is worth testing, in what order, and what can be treated without testing at all.
- Visit one. History, examination, review of the reports and blood results you bring. Bring your medication list, previous endoscopy or imaging reports, and recent bloods — repeating tests you have already had wastes both your money and the appointment.
- Tests, if indicated. Blood work, stool tests, breath testing for Helicobacter pylori, ultrasound, or endoscopy. Not everyone needs a scope; the symptoms that usually mean one is warranted are difficulty swallowing, bleeding, iron-deficiency anaemia, unintentional weight loss, or a persistent change in bowel habit.
- The procedure. Performed in a DHA-licensed day surgical centre with sedation and same-day discharge. Gastroscopy with sedation from AED 7,100 and colonoscopy with sedation from AED 7,600, each covering the sedation, histology and recovery — quoted in writing before booking. Prices updated: September 2026.
- Results and plan. Histology takes several working days; the plan is reviewed against the report rather than the impression on the day. Where the finding belongs with another specialty, or the case needs a hospital, you are referred and told why.
Individual results vary. Treatment is prescribed after examination by a DHA-licensed physician, and the risks of any procedure are explained to you in writing before you consent.
