PDO Thread Lift in Dubai

Non-Surgical Thread Lift in Dubai

A thread lift lifts and supports facial tissue with fine absorbable threads placed under the skin. There is no incision, no general anaesthesia and no overnight stay. At ELEMENTAL Day Surgical Center in Jumeirah 1 the procedure is performed under local anaesthesia and usually takes 30 to 60 minutes, depending on how many zones are treated.

Two things happen at once. The threads themselves reposition tissue that has descended — the cheek that has flattened, the jawline that has softened, the brow that sits lower than it did. Around each thread the body then forms new collagen along the track it leaves, so the skin continues to firm for several months after the appointment, long after the thread material itself has dissolved.

This is a procedure for early and moderate laxity. It suits patients who can see the change in the mirror but are not ready for surgery, and patients who want a result that develops quietly rather than announcing itself. It does not remove skin, and it will not do the work of a surgical facelift — the section below on choosing between them is written to make that boundary clear rather than blur it.

Threads are frequently combined with volume work. Lifting tissue that has also lost volume gives a flatter result than lifting and restoring together, which is why contouring with fillers or collagen stimulation is often planned in the same consultation.

Which Threads We Use, and What Each One Does

Mono threads

Smooth threads without barbs. They do not pull tissue; they are placed in a mesh pattern to stimulate collagen and thicken thin, crepey skin. Typical zones are the neck, the area around the mouth, the forehead and the décolletage. Because they work by stimulation rather than traction, they are used in larger numbers — often 10 to 30 per zone.

Cog threads (barbed threads)

These carry small barbs along their length that anchor into tissue and hold it in a new position. They are the lifting threads: midface, jawline, jowls, brow. Fewer are needed — usually two to six per side — and the change is visible on the day of the procedure, then settles over the following two weeks as swelling resolves.

Screw and twin threads

One or two threads twisted around the insertion needle. They add local volume and are used in small hollow areas, such as the temples or a depressed scar, where a lift is not the goal.

The material matters more than the shape

The letters in front of the word «thread» describe the polymer, not the brand:

  • PDO (polydioxanone) — the material used in surgical sutures for decades. It absorbs in about 6 to 8 months; the collagen response it triggers lasts longer than the thread itself, typically 12 to 18 months.
  • PLA and PLLA (polylactic acid) — absorbs more slowly, over roughly 12 to 18 months, with a stronger and more gradual collagen response. Often chosen where skin quality, rather than position, is the main concern.
  • PCL (polycaprolactone) — the slowest of the three, absorbing over 18 to 24 months, with support that builds gradually rather than arriving at once.

Which material and which shape suit you is decided at the consultation, on your skin, not from a price list. In many faces more than one type is used in a single session — cog threads to reposition the midface, mono threads along the neck.

Areas We Treat with Threads

Midface and cheeks

The most common request. As the fat pads of the cheek descend, the area under the eye lengthens and the fold beside the nose deepens. Cog threads placed from the temple downwards reposition the pad; two to three per side is typical.

Jawline and jowls

A softened jaw outline is what most patients notice first in photographs. Threads anchored above the ear redefine the line from chin to ear. In a face with good skin quality this is the zone where threads perform closest to what patients hoped for.

Neck

Two different problems, two different answers. Loose horizontal banding responds to mono threads placed as a mesh. A descended jaw-to-neck angle needs cog threads anchored higher. Neither will treat a heavy neck with excess skin — that is surgical territory, and we say so at the consultation.

Brow

A short, well-placed cog thread raises the tail of the brow by a few millimetres and opens the eye. Where the brow has descended further, a surgical brow lift gives a longer-lasting change; the two are often discussed side by side.

Nose

Threads placed along the bridge and columella can straighten a minor irregularity or lift a drooping tip. This is a modest change, measured in millimetres, and it is not a substitute for rhinoplasty. It suits a patient who wants a small correction without surgery and understands that the effect fades as the thread absorbs.

Body

Mono threads are used on the inner arms, the abdomen after weight change and above the knees, where the goal is to thicken and tighten thin skin rather than to lift. Expectations here need to be set carefully: threads improve skin texture and tone, they do not remove laxity that follows major weight loss.

Thread Lift for Men

Men make up a growing share of the thread lift appointments at our centre, and the planning is not the same as for women.

Male skin is thicker and holds more collagen, which means threads anchor well but also that more of them are usually needed for a visible change. The aesthetic goal differs too: men generally ask for a firmer jaw and a straighter brow line, not a lifted, rounded cheek. Over-lifting the midface in a male face reads as feminised, and it is the most common error we correct in patients who come to us after treatment elsewhere.

Practical points men ask about most often: the procedure leaves no visible entry marks in the hairline, beard growth is unaffected, and most patients return to work the next day with mild swelling that a beard hides well. Contact sport and gym sessions with heavy upper-body load wait two weeks.

How the Treatment Works, Step by Step

Consultation. A doctor examines the face at rest and in movement, marks where tissue has descended and explains which threads would be used and how many. If threads are not the right answer for your face, that is said at this stage — and the alternative is named.

Preparation. The skin is cleaned and anaesthetic cream is applied for about 20 minutes. Entry points are then numbed with local anaesthetic. You remain awake and can speak with the doctor throughout.

Placement. Each thread is introduced through a small entry point with a fine cannula or needle. Nothing is cut. Tissue is repositioned as the thread is drawn into place, and the doctor checks the face in the mirror with you before finishing the opposite side.

Finishing. Thread ends are trimmed below the skin surface. Entry points close on their own; no stitches are placed.

Duration. One zone takes about 30 minutes. A full face with several zones takes up to an hour. You leave the centre on your own the same day.

Before your appointment

  • Tell the doctor about every medication and supplement you take, including anything that thins the blood.
  • Avoid alcohol for 24 hours beforehand — it increases bruising.
  • Come without makeup if possible, and plan nothing socially important for the following three days.

Recovery, Day by Day

Recovery after a thread lift is short but not invisible. Here is what most patients experience.

Day of the procedure

The lift is already visible, though it sits on top of early swelling. Mild tightness when you smile or chew is normal. Sleep on your back with the head raised.

Days 1 to 3

Swelling peaks. Bruising, if it appears, shows at the entry points and along the thread track. Most patients take paracetamol only. Sleeping on your back matters more in these three days than at any other point.

Days 4 to 10

Swelling settles and any bruising fades. Small dimples or a puckered look at an entry point are common and resolve as tissue relaxes. If a dimple is still visible after two weeks, it is corrected at the follow-up.

Weeks 2 to 4

The face looks settled and the result is close to final in position. Chewing tough food, wide yawning and facial massage are back to normal from week three.

Months 2 to 6

The collagen response builds. Skin firmness continues to improve during this period, which is why the photograph taken at three months usually looks better than the one taken at three weeks.

What to avoid, and for how long

  • Facial massage, facials and hammam — three weeks.
  • Sauna, steam and hot yoga — two weeks.
  • Gym and running — one week; heavy upper-body training — two weeks.
  • Dental work under wide mouth opening — three weeks where it can be postponed.
  • Sleeping face down — three weeks.

Thread Lift, Facelift, Fillers or Energy Devices — How to Choose

Patients rarely arrive asking for threads. They arrive with a photograph of themselves from five years ago. The honest answer depends on what has actually changed.

What you see What usually fits
Early sagging, good skin quality, you can lift the tissue with your fingers and like the result Thread lift
Flat, hollow cheeks; folds caused by lost volume rather than descent Filler contouring, often with threads
Thin, crepey skin with no real sagging Collagen stimulation or mono threads
Loose skin that folds over itself; a heavy neck; deep nasolabial folds Surgical facelift
Mild laxity, no downtime acceptable at all Energy-based tightening

The comparison patients ask for most

Threads against a facelift. A facelift repositions deeper layers and removes excess skin; the result is measured in years. A thread lift repositions tissue without removing anything; the result is measured in months, up to about 18. Threads are not a smaller facelift — they answer a different stage of the same problem. Where the skin has genuine excess, threads will disappoint, and we will say so before you book.

Threads against fillers. Fillers restore volume; threads change position. A cheek that has emptied needs volume. A cheek that has slipped needs support. Most faces past forty have some of both, which is why the two are so often planned together.

Threads against energy devices. Radiofrequency and focused ultrasound tighten skin gradually with no downtime and no entry points, but they cannot move tissue upwards. Where the concern is position rather than texture, a device will not deliver what threads deliver.

When a Thread Lift Is Not the Right Choice

A thread lift is a medical procedure with real limits and real complications. It is not offered at our centre when:

  • skin laxity is advanced and the skin folds over itself — surgery is the appropriate answer;
  • the face carries significant excess weight in the lower third, where threads tend to migrate;
  • there is active infection, active acne or inflammation in the treatment zone;
  • the patient takes anticoagulants that cannot be paused, or has a bleeding disorder;
  • there is an autoimmune condition affecting connective tissue, or uncontrolled diabetes;
  • the patient is pregnant or breastfeeding;
  • there is a known allergy to the thread material;
  • the expectation described in the consultation cannot be met by threads — the most common reason we decline.

Possible complications

Bruising, swelling and tenderness are expected rather than complications. Beyond those: visible dimpling at an entry point, temporary asymmetry, a palpable thread end, thread migration, and — rarely — infection. Every one of these is manageable, and each is discussed with you before consent is signed. Any clinic that tells you a thread lift carries no risk is not describing the procedure accurately.

Who Performs the Procedure at ELEMENTAL

Thread lifts at ELEMENTAL Day Surgical Center are performed by doctors licensed by the Dubai Health Authority, in a licensed day surgery facility rather than a beauty salon. That distinction matters for a procedure that places material under the skin: it determines the sterility standard, the consent process and what happens if something needs to be corrected.

  • Dr. Olivera Nikolic, Specialist Dermatologist — facial assessment, skin quality and combined treatment planning.
  • Dr. Egor Adamovich, General Practitioner — thread placement and injectable contouring.
  • Dr. Muntaser Alawi, Specialist Dermatologist — thread placement and follow-up care.
  • Dr. Akshatha Dinakar, General Practitioner — thread placement and follow-up care.

The doctor who performs your procedure is the doctor who sees you at the follow-up. If a dimple needs releasing or a thread end needs trimming, it is corrected by the person who placed it, at no additional charge.

Cost and Your Next Step

The cost of a thread lift depends on how many threads are used, which type of thread, and how many zones are treated. A single brow correction and a full face with neck are different procedures with different prices, so a figure quoted before anyone has looked at your face is not a real figure.

How pricing works at our centre:

  • At the consultation the doctor decides the thread type and the number of threads for your face.
  • You receive a written estimate with a fixed price before you agree to anything. Nothing is added on the day of the appointment.
  • The estimate covers the procedure, the local anaesthetic and the follow-up review.
  • If the plan changes at your request, a new written estimate is issued first.

Patients comparing quotes across Dubai should compare the same things: thread type, thread count, who performs the procedure and whether follow-up is included. A lower number that covers six threads is not cheaper than a higher number that covers fourteen.
