What injectables can and cannot do
Injectable treatment does three mechanical things: it relaxes a muscle that is folding the skin, it restores volume where tissue has been lost, or it provokes the skin to build its own collagen over the following months. Everything sold under this heading is one of those three.
What it does not do is change skin quality. Texture, pigmentation, scarring, active acne and broken vessels are treated in aesthetic dermatology, and a syringe aimed at them produces an expensive nothing. Nor does it substitute for surgery: where the problem is loose skin rather than lost volume, filling it adds weight to tissue that is already descending, and the honest answer is that the result will disappoint.
Which of the three — if any — applies to you is what the first appointment establishes.
Four groups, and why they are not interchangeable
Anti-wrinkle injection. Relaxes the muscles that crease the skin with expression — forehead, frown, crow’s feet. It does nothing to a line that is already etched at rest. See anti-wrinkle therapy.
Hyaluronic acid fillers. Restore volume and support structure — cheeks, temples, chin, lips, tear trough. Reversible with filler-dissolving enzyme, which matters more than it sounds. See filler contouring.
Collagen biostimulators. Do not fill; they provoke the skin to produce collagen over weeks to months, so the change is gradual and so is its reversal. See collagen stimulation.
Hydration and skin-quality injectables — biorevitalization, mesotherapy, platelet-rich plasma prepared from your own blood. See biorevitalization and platelet-rich plasma therapy. Localised fat is a separate question again: lipolytics.
The consultation is not a formality
Facial anatomy is individual, and the vessels that matter are not where a diagram says they are. Before anything is injected the doctor examines the face at rest and in movement, because what moves decides where toxin goes and what has descended decides whether filler is even the right tool.
The history matters as much. Anticoagulants and antiplatelet drugs change bruising risk; autoimmune disease and immunosuppression change how the tissue responds; pregnancy and breastfeeding are contraindications; recent dental work or an active skin infection means postponing. And one question that is skipped more often than any other: what has been injected into your face before, when and what exactly it was — because a permanent or semi-permanent filler placed years ago changes what can safely be done today.
Why these are medical procedures
The complication that matters with fillers is not a bruise. It is vascular occlusion — preparation entering or compressing a vessel and cutting off blood supply to the skin, or, rarely, to the eye. It is uncommon, it is recognisable early by someone who knows the signs, and it is time-critical: the response is immediate filler-dissolving enzyme and escalation, not a follow-up appointment next week.
That is the whole argument for where these treatments belong. A licensed clinic, a doctor who knows the anatomy, filler-dissolving enzyme on the premises, written aftercare and a number to call the same evening if something is not right. Injectables administered outside that setting are the same preparation with none of the safety net.

When it works, how long it lasts, and what maintenance means
The anti-wrinkle effect starts to show at three to fourteen days and is usually reviewed at two weeks, which is when small adjustments are made. The effect typically lasts three to four months and returns gradually rather than switching off.
Hyaluronic acid fillers are visible immediately, settle over about two weeks as swelling resolves, and last roughly six to eighteen months depending on the preparation and the area — a mobile area like the lips consumes filler faster than a static one like the temple. Biostimulators work in the opposite direction: little to see at first, with the change building over one to three months.
All of it is maintenance rather than a one-off, and a plan that does not say when you will be back is an incomplete plan. Photographs under the same conditions are how the change is judged — two weeks of mirror checks reliably underestimate it.
Cost and how to start
Anti-wrinkle injections are charged per unit, from AED 30, so the figure depends on the areas treated and how much muscle there is to treat — the number of units is agreed before anything is injected. Biorevitalization starts from AED 1,600. Fillers and biostimulators are quoted per syringe after the assessment, because the volume required is a clinical judgement rather than a package.
A consultation is AED 600 with a general practitioner, AED 680 with a specialist and AED 750 with a consultant, as of August 2026. You get the figure before you come in, and nothing is added on the day without being explained and agreed first.
