Abdomen and flanks

The most requested combination, and the one where the ultrasound step earns its place: the flanks and the upper abdomen are fibrous, and a conventional cannula meets real resistance there. Treated together rather than separately, because taking fat from the abdomen alone leaves the flanks looking wider than before.

Back and bra line

Dense, fibrous fat that responds poorly to diet and to conventional technique. One of the zones where patients notice the difference in clothing first.

Male chest

Where the problem is fat rather than glandular tissue, VASER handles the fibrous male chest well. Where there is a firm disc of gland under the nipple, fat removal alone will not correct the shape and gynecomastia surgery is the appropriate operation. Which of the two you need is decided by examination, and the two are often combined.

Arms

Skin quality decides the outcome here more than fat volume. Where the skin retracts well the result is good; where it has lost elasticity, removing fat alone leaves the arm looser than before, and a tightening step or an arm lift is the honest recommendation.

Inner and outer thighs

The inner thigh has thinner, softer fat and needs a conservative approach; the outer thigh and the area over the hip tolerate more. Treated as one unit so the leg keeps a continuous line.

Chin and jawline

A small-volume treatment with a visible effect on the profile, often combined with skin tightening. Recovery is short, but a compression band is worn for the first days.

Calves and ankles

Technically demanding and possible only in selected patients. Assessed carefully — in many cases the shape is muscular rather than fatty, and liposuction would not change it.

VASER suits fibrous and dense fat, revision cases, and work where surface definition is the goal. It is not a weight-loss procedure and it is not automatically superior for every area: in soft, low-fibrous fat a conventional or power-assisted technique may achieve the same result with less operating time. Which technology suits your case — or which combination — is decided at the consultation after examination of the area and assessment of your skin.

Skin quality is the part patients underestimate. Removing fat does not tighten skin. Where laxity is present, the surgeon will discuss whether skin treatment is needed alongside, or whether an excisional procedure such as abdominoplasty is the more honest answer.

Patients ask which method is better. They are tools for different tissue, and most operations use more than one.

The distinction that matters most: liposuction removes fat, it does not remove skin. Where the envelope is already loose — after pregnancy, after significant weight loss — taking the fat out makes the looseness more visible, not less. A surgeon who does not raise this before the operation is planning your procedure, not your result.

High-definition work uses the same ultrasound step, but the fat is removed selectively — more from over the muscle borders, less from the muscle bellies — so the underlying shape shows through. It is what patients mean when they ask about abdominal etching.

Who it suits

Patients who already train, whose body fat is low and whose skin is firm. The technique reveals muscle that exists; it does not create it. On a patient carrying more fat, the same operation produces an ordinary contouring result and an unrealistic expectation.

What it demands

Longer operating time, a more detailed plan, and a stricter recovery: compression garments, lymphatic drainage and patience through a swelling phase that lasts longer than after standard liposuction. The definition appears over three to six months, not in the first weeks.

What it costs in honesty

High-definition results are harder to revise. Fat removed too aggressively over a muscle border leaves a groove that is difficult to correct, because putting fat back is a separate operation with its own reabsorption. This is a technique where conservative planning is the safer plan.

Patients whose weight has been stable for several months, close to the shape they intend to keep, with localised deposits that have not responded to diet and exercise. Where weight is still changing, the surgeon will normally advise waiting.

Smoking restricts blood supply to healing tissue and raises the rate of complications. Uncontrolled diabetes, blood-thinning medication and previous scarring in the area change the plan rather than simply being noted.

Fat taken with VASER can be processed and re-injected in the same session. The ultrasound step is deliberately kept gentle where transfer is planned, so the harvested cells stay viable.

• Buttocks and hips — contouring the waist and adding projection in one operation.
• Breast — a modest increase, roughly half a cup to one cup per session, without an implant.
• Face — temples, cheeks and the area under the eyes, where volume has been lost with age.
• Hands — where tendons and veins have become prominent.

Part of any transferred fat is reabsorbed over the first months — commonly a third to a half. That is expected, not a complication, and the surgeon plans for it. A second session is sometimes needed to reach the intended volume, and that is discussed before the first one.

Compression garments and restricted activity are part of recovery for several weeks, not days. Swelling settles gradually and the final contour continues to refine for months. Individual results vary, and the timeline differs by the number of areas treated and the volume removed.

VASER liposuction is a surgical operation under anaesthesia. These are the things that matter, described plainly.

Expected, not complications

Swelling for several weeks, bruising for two to three, numbness in the treated area for weeks to months, and firm areas under the skin that soften over the first three months.

Contour irregularity

The most common reason for revision: uneven removal leaving a dip or a ridge. Reduced by conservative technique and by treating whole zones rather than isolated spots; corrected, where needed, after six months when swelling has fully settled.

Loose skin after fat removal

Not a complication of technique but of tissue: where elasticity is poor, the envelope does not retract. Anticipated at the consultation, which is why the examination matters more than the choice of device.

Seroma, infection, thermal injury

Uncommon. Fluid collection is drained; infection is treated; thermal injury from the ultrasound probe is avoided by keeping the tissue wetted and the energy time-limited — both are matters of operator discipline.

Anaesthetic and thromboembolic risk

Assessed before surgery by the anaesthesiologist. Early mobilisation on the same day, compression, and in selected patients pharmacological prophylaxis.

What no surgeon can promise

A specific number of centimetres, a symmetrical result to the millimetre, or that the skin will retract. Individual results vary, and the operation is contouring rather than weight loss.
