Ask three Dubai clinics what a treatment costs and you can get three answers that differ by a factor of five. Usually none of them is lying. They are quoting different things.

This is a guide to reading a quote, using our own published prices as the worked example. Every figure below is what we charge and is published on the relevant page of this site.

1. The consultation fee follows the doctor’s DHA grade

In Dubai the consultation fee is tied to the grade the Dubai Health Authority granted the doctor, not to how the clinic feels about its brand. There are three grades, and at ELEMENTAL the fees are:

• General Practitioner — AED 600
• Specialist — AED 680
• Consultant — AED 750

So a clinic advertising a cheaper consultation may simply be booking you with a General Practitioner, and a more expensive one may be booking a Consultant. Neither is wrong — but you should know which you are getting. Ask for the grade, not the fee. You can check it yourself in the DHA register.

2. “From AED” means the simplest possible case

Almost every aesthetic price you see online is a starting price. It describes the least complex version of the treatment, and the honest ones say so. Ours do:

• Anti-wrinkle injections — from AED 30 per unit, one zone from AED 512
• Lip filler — from AED 1,600
• Biorevitalization — from AED 1,600 per session
• Chemical peel — from AED 900

The gap between the starting price and your price is not a markup. It is the amount of product your anatomy needs, the number of sessions your skin needs, and whether one area or three are being treated.

3. Per-unit pricing is the most misread number in Dubai

Anti-wrinkle injections are sold per unit almost everywhere, and per-unit prices are what clinics advertise, because a small number looks better than a large one. But you do not buy units, you buy a result in a zone — and the number of units a zone requires varies substantially between people.

A clinic quoting a low price per unit and a clinic quoting a higher one can end up at a similar total, or not, depending entirely on how many units they use. The only comparable question is: what will the treatment of this zone cost me in total, and how many units is that? Ask it that way, and ask for the product name.

4. Diagnostics are often quoted separately — and can exceed the treatment

A quote for a procedure frequently excludes the diagnostics required before it. In vein treatment, for example, the duplex ultrasound that determines what treatment you actually need costs AED 1,200 for one leg and AED 1,600 for both at our clinic, in addition to the AED 750 consultation with a Consultant Surgeon.

In endoscopy the pattern is the same: the consultation is AED 750, and the procedure under sedation starts from AED 8,000 for gastroscopy and AED 9,000 for colonoscopy.

None of this is hidden — but if you compare one clinic’s all-in figure with another’s procedure-only figure, the comparison is meaningless.

5. What a written estimate should contain

After the consultation you should receive a written estimate, before anything is scheduled. It should state:

• the procedure, and for surgery, the surgeon’s fee, the anaesthesia and the theatre time;
• the diagnostics required beforehand;
• the number of sessions, if it is a course;
• which follow-up visits are included and which are charged;
• consumables you are expected to buy, such as compression garments after body surgery;

If a clinic will not put the total in writing before you pay a deposit, that is the answer to your question about the clinic.

6. Insurance changes the arithmetic, but only for medical treatment

Purely cosmetic treatment is not covered by any policy in the UAE. Treatment that is medically indicated often is, subject to your policy and to pre-approval, which requires clinical documentation from the consultation and takes time to obtain.

The practical consequence: start the approval process when the treatment is proposed, not when the date is booked. Waiting for approval is the most common reason a planned procedure has to be moved.

7. Why the cheapest quote is sometimes the most expensive

Two costs are invisible in a price list. The first is redoing work — treatment planned in the wrong order, filler placed where the problem was skin quality, veneers fitted before orthodontics. The second is managing a complication, which depends on whether the clinic has the equipment and the licensed staff to manage it on site.

This is not an argument that expensive is better. Plenty of expensive clinics in Dubai sell packages nobody needed. It is an argument for asking what is included, who is doing it, and what happens if it does not go to plan — before comparing two numbers that were never comparable.

Questions worth asking any Dubai clinic

1. What DHA grade is the doctor I will see, and what is their licence number?
2. Is this price per session, per unit, or for the whole course?
3. What diagnostics are needed first, and what do they cost?
4. What is the total, in writing, before I pay anything?
5. Which follow-up visits are included?
6. If the result needs adjusting, what is the position?
