
How to Prepare for Laboratory Tests
Proper preparation helps ensure the most accurate laboratory results
Blood Tests
- Most blood tests should be performed in the morning
- Unless instructed otherwise, fasting for 8–12 hours is recommended
- Drinking small amounts of plain water is allowed
- Avoid alcohol for at least 24 hours before testing
- Refrain from strenuous exercise the day before your appointment
- Do not smoke for at least 1–2 hours before blood collection
Biochemistry Tests
For most biochemical investigations, we recommend:
- fasting for 8–12 hours
- avoiding fatty foods the day before testing
- avoiding alcohol for 24–48 hours
Hormone Tests
Some hormone tests should be performed on specific days of the menstrual cycle or at a particular time of day. Our coordinators will provide personalised instructions when your appointment is scheduled.
Urine Tests
- Use a sterile urine collection container
- Whenever possible, collect the first morning urine sample
- Maintain proper personal hygiene before specimen collection
Taking Regular Medications
Some medications may influence laboratory results. Do not stop taking prescribed medication unless advised by your physician. Please inform our team about any medications or supplements you are taking so that we can provide appropriate guidance before your laboratory tests.
